“The Soul of a Soldier: Track Star to War” I was inspired to write this book because of my experiences during my 21 years of service to this great Nation. I have had the opportunity to travel to different places all over the world. I have experienced many different cultures. I’m truly blessed to still be here to share my story of life’s journeys of my tours of duty. The hidden scars are the worst. I’ve had to deal with regret, divorce, family deaths, and not even to mention the lost of great Soldiers in battle. As a leader, I became numb because of the constant painful impact of my soul. Like running or walking the only part of your body that strikes the surface is the feet. The purpose of the sole of the shoe is to absorb, take in, engulf, or engross completely the impact of the surface. That sole is me. I have experienced a lot through my world’s travel, but nothing can compare to the experience of war and the sights and sounds of tragedy that are engulfed in my mind. This version is in my book. I had a dream that I was back in high school running in a track meet one night. The last race for me was the mile relay. I was coming down the home stretch. The people in the crowd was screaming my name… but when I looked in the crowd, I saw bloody people and kids screaming saying, “Help us!
